Launching ifLink Operations in Thailand with a Vision for Global Expansion
Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation, alongside its subsidiary Toshiba Asia Pacific (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (TATC), has introduced a groundbreaking and cost-effective solution for IoT development to the Thai market with the launch of ifLink. This marks the first instance of ifLink operations being established outside Japan, where TATC will oversee software licensing and customer support. The ifLink platform allows users to effortlessly integrate a variety of IoT devices and web services into cohesive modules, connect to a cloud-based application platform, and create operational rules based on if-then conditions.
Overcoming Barriers to IoT Adoption in Thailand
Despite the potential of IoT technology, its deployment in Thailand’s manufacturing sector has faced challenges due to insufficient expertise and high initial costs. TATC is partnering with the Technology Promotion Association (Thailand-Japan) (TPA), a non-profit organization dedicated to transferring Japan’s advanced IoT technologies and knowledge to Thailand, while also fostering skill development. TATC has identified that ifLink can significantly enhance kaizen activities at manufacturing sites involved in TPA’s Smart Monodzukuri Support Team project, which aims to cultivate human resources for digital transformation.
Hands-On Training for Effective IoT Integration
In late 2024 and early 2025, Toshiba conducted practical workshops for project instructors responsible for educating local personnel and TPA member companies on the effective use of ifLink in IoT setups. Participants noted that ifLink is intuitive and accessible, even for those with limited IoT knowledge. This positive feedback has led Toshiba Digital Solutions and TATC to officially launch the ifLink initiative in Thailand, specifically targeting local manufacturing firms, including those associated with TPA.
Trial Services and Subscription Models for Seamless Adoption
TATC is offering a trial service in Thailand that will eventually transition to a full licensing model. The trial includes a one-month use of the ifLink Starter Kit, which comprises an Android smartphone pre-installed with the ifLink app, a data communication device, and various sensors, priced at 10,500 baht (approximately 310 USD). This allows users to begin utilizing ifLink without needing to procure their own devices. Following the trial, users can opt for a full subscription service priced at a base fee of 5,740 baht (about 170 USD) per month, plus the costs for necessary devices and a one-time setup fee. The monthly fee may fluctuate based on the sensors utilized. Participants from the TPA ifLink seminar will be eligible for a discounted rate.
Aiming for Significant Market Penetration and Future Expansion
Toshiba Digital Solutions and TATC have set an ambitious goal of selling 100 ifLink Starter Kit licenses to manufacturers in Thailand by the end of the fiscal year 2027. Additionally, they are actively seeking business partners to develop IoT solutions utilizing the ifLink platform. Looking ahead, Toshiba Digital Solutions is contemplating the expansion of the ifLink business throughout the Asia-Pacific region, aspiring to establish a robust open IoT business ecosystem both in Japan and globally.
